[Rin]
Look, you've got it all wrong.
You think you've figured out the truth, but hesitation has blinded you.
There was something horribly off. Those weren't the lines in the script at all. The dawning realization must have twisted something in Mizuki's expression as both their gazes caught again, because the grin on Rin's lips became much more pronounced.
[Rin]
I'm here. Because I wanted to be.
The lines had been completely warped now. "Sarina", who was supposed to be floundering in excuses, was attempting to turn the tables. A familiar look of pure recklessness flashed in Rin's eyes as they let the pause sink into the cold air between them. Only a slight upturn of their eyebrow a moment later indicated it was Mizuki's turn to reply.
[Mizuki]
Enough. There's no need to say anything.
The words rang out empty. The two only needed to exchange the dialogue placed in front of them, but Rin was abandoning that for some reason or another. Did they think they could ad-lib their way out of this scene? Would that even be acceptable?
No, it wasn't worth risking. Not this late in the game.
No matter how gruesome the stage directions were, as long as they stuck to it, they would get out of this unscathed... right? Right?? That was the logic of this completely mad situation and the very real threat of a punishment game creeping closer with every misstep.
Mizuki's eyes searched Rin's with alarm for any cue, any hint, that the other had a plan in motion with this improvised direction. But they were met with a blank calmness that betrayed the situation at hand.
[Rin]
What's the truth, Kurata?
Your eyes tell me you're not convinced.
