I got inspired seeing others' collection pages here on Neocities... So I decided to retrieve my CD player and old collection from my folks' house when I visited during the 2024 December holidays.
CDs are organized approximately by year obtained, oldest to newest. All photos on this page are my own.

Rambling
My collection is kind of strange because I wasn't into pop music at allllll. I grew up listening to a lot of game and anime OSTs and burning my own CDs in grade school. A lot of my old music library was thanks to LJ comms posting j-pop and j-rock discographies, FSTs, and stuff on limited upload rotations. I didn't get around to buying my own CDs until high school and college when I got suuuper into visual kei. Nowadays, I'm mostly on the hunt for OSTs and drama CDs that I can't obtain digitally, and physical editions of old visual kei favs.

This is the combo CD & cassette player radio I had growing up. It still works like a charm. The manufacturing date is printed on the back: May 1995!
Neopets zippered CD cases
I kept so many of my DIY burned music in these for the longest time. The little tag on the inside says these were manufactured in 2005.

Lucky Star - vocal mini album (2005)

I picked this up completely on a whim going into a Kinokuniya when I was in middle school??? This mini album goes with a Lucky Star Nintendo DS game. The tracks and their remixes are nothing special and far from memorable tbh. I really did just buy it because I saw Konata and friends on the cover.

I missed nabbing volumes 1 and 2 through the ToA LJ comm, so I ended up buying these myself haha.
The summary of the drama contents on the front cover is written in English:
"The score rules the world. The score by the Order of Lorelei is everything to the people there. While the balance of power between The Kingdom of Kimulasca-Lanvaldear and The Malkuth Empire has maintained, one boy would have a day of the departure. This is so silly.
I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get this??? It's so ABSURD?? Literally the Most Awful Side Character (voiced by the prolific Kishow) yells various things at you for 98 tracks. Each one is just a couple seconds long, followed by the same OTT guitar riff. The track listing has all the dialogue written out. I only listened to like the first 9 tracks, but it was an Experience. This is both an absolute gift and a horrible prank all at once. Thank you, Kishow and Team Baldrhead. This is getting displayed in my partner's Baldr Sky shrine.

J-Rock & Visual Kei
Megamasso (メガマソ) was the first vkei band I got really into, right around the time they had their major debut with Chimes. (I had seen Ryohei appear as a guest model in the Gothic & Lolita Bible and KERA previously.) I have the photocards for these stashed somewhere, but it's been a hot minute. I'm looking to collect some of their older CDs from their indie days... And same for ViViD.

I was at the height of my ViViD obsession around the time this came out and subsequently also picked up a bunch of issues of SHOXX and other magazines etc. Kakera will always be a favorite track of mine. Their previous eras stood out as more iconic to me, but this is alright.

This was one of the last physical j-rock albums I bought before disappearing from the scene/fandom in 2012. This was suuuuuch a departure from the their old vibe and from vkei in general. I don't love the pop rock boy band vibe sorry. The cover is so cheesy funny to me.
